Shotting Ignorance

Sunday 25th February

Shotting Ignorance 1

Props: Gas mask, gun, picture frame, camera, tripod, alarm clock
Location: Matts house and outside a derelict building around Redcliffe

On this day we will shot part of Ignorance then on the follwing sunday we shall hopefully finish the rest of the filming.

We shot most of our film within 6 hours on Sunday 25th February. Filming ignorance went well as we all turned up on time an ready to shoot.

With the camera we used a tripod and then hand held to make one of the scenes see more realistic and have a sense of panic.

Soldier sits at desk.

Close-up to soldier opening a drawer, taking out gas canister (not a vegetable or a deodorant can.)

Mid-shot of solider, a picture frame is in the foreground out of focus, we only see the back.

Soldier looks at picture frame.

SOLDIER:
Don’t look at me like that.

Straight cut to over the shoulder shot showing front of the picture frame, revealing picture of a girl (possibly standing next to the Soldier), the soldier turns the picture over.

High angle close-up of soldier inhaling the drug.

Straight cut to close-up of phone, phone is in foreground in focus, with the soldier in the background taking the drug.

Wide angle of unknown person, the drug dealer, standing in an urban area, soldier walks in from right of the frame, the two people stand looking at each other.

DRUG DEALER:
Doesn’t come cheap, does it.

SOLDIER:
I can’t pay you yet.

DRUG DEALER:
I’m sure I can persuade you.

Straight cut to young girl from the picture, shot is harsh -- shaky handheld and harsh sound -- she is being beaten. Shot contrasts previous shot of drug dealer and soldier.

Straight cut back to previous shot.

SOLDIER:
What do you mean?

We cut back briefly once again to the shot of the girl.

We return to previous line of action.

DRUG DEALER:
Are you a family man?

Very quick shot of the girl.

Returns to soldier and dealer.

DRUG DEALER:
Sister?

Cut back to girl. Then return.

In one motion soldier pins dealer to a wall, pulling a gun to their throat.

SOLDIER:
If you touch one hair on her head, I swear to god-

DRUG DEALER:
[Interrupting] No. If you touch one hair on mine then I swear to god she’s not leaving me alive.

We cut back to the girl, the camera is still handheld but less shaky and harsh, she is no longer being beaten.

We cut back to a wide angle of the dealer and soldier; the soldier lowers his gun.

We cut back to the girl, it is now a wide angle, showing the girl alone in an empty room, tied to a chair with her head hung, possibly with torn clothes.

Camera Angle/Shots for Film

Instead of using a tripod by using handheld the shot seems more realistic which also adds a sense of panic.
By zooming up onto the characters face you can see their emotion and how they are feeling at the present time.
Using low key lighening it adds an effect of darkness. Focussing on one thing can also add awareness and focusses on one thing at a time giving an edgy feel.

Tracking and Pan shots are commonly used in the beginning of thriller films, particularly a certain group of people who we should be interested in as the audience.
Jumps cuts are also common as they allow us as the audience to make assumptions on what the story or characters will be like.
