EVALUATION QUESTION 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your product?

From doing some research into films which related to ours we knew our film wouldn't be a high budget film which would most likely be a British film. The movie would probably be produced by a company such as Film4.
Film4 have produced many films in the past which are well know and a great hit such as The Lovely Bones, The Iron Lady and Slumdog Millionaire and also British films. These films al received different awards such as BAFTA's for being great films and received them all for different reasons.

The film would be put up for awards such as the Oscar's or BAFTA's. To make this film truly British we could use British directors and Actors such Nicholas Hoult who would be the main character. He has starred in many films and programs such as Xmen, Skins, and his most recent movie Jack the Giant Slayer. The role of the sister would go to someone like Keira Knightley. A young British actress who have been very popular is many movies and plays her parts well in each film. The film would be a great hit in britain as it was made, produced and acted out by people all from Britain. The movie would a hit in the UK but also around the world as it would interest a wide range of people.

EVALUATION QUESTION 7

Looking back at your premliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Ignorance was complely different to the prelminary task that was made by a member of our team Matt. Many differnet camera angles/techniqes were used which made the movie clip look better. The only things we used from the Preliminary was the actor and the shots/angles which helped us when it came to making our final piece.

We did not use the 180 degree rule in Ignorance although it is shown in our preliminary, this was used to give an us idea of what it would be like and if we had more than 2 or more characters in one scene then it could of been more useful but we chose not to. We used many different camera techniques in our final piece which we could get ideas from our preliminary which worked out well and our 2 minute clip of the beginning of the movie ignorance looked and worked well.

EVALUATION QUESTION 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

'Ignorance' was filmed on two different DSLR film cameras. Most of the movie clip was filmed on the Canon 600d which was used for the still footage and for the flashbacks. We also used another camera which was a Nikon D3100 for outside shots. We chose to use these cameras as they were two of our members of the teams cameras of which they recommended and were happy to use due to them using them for other things and knowing how to use them. One of the cameras had a screen of which we could rotate to the actors and other member of our team could see what footage was being captured.

We were able to connect with each other through the social network site Facebook. Where a group was created called 'Cast and Crew for Ignorance (Media studies film opening). This group members contained the 4 production team and several other people who were actors. On this page we were able to all get in contact with one another and make plans on when to film and places to be at.

Our group didn't use iMovie but Final Cut Pro to edit the film as they were more familiar with this editing software and worked better for them. 2 of our members of our team Matt and Tyrone both had this software on their own computers and worked together to edit parts of the clips. They also used GarageBand which is a popular app on Mac computers which allows you to use and create music and make instrumentals and soundtracks which they used in Ignorance.

Youtube was also very helpful to connect with each-other and put clips we needed to get from one another such as our preliminary task and final movie so each one of our team could access it easily.

EVALUATION QUESTION 5

How did you address/attract your audience?

Our film relates/reperesntes young people, of different classes in a suberb area. The main character a young man
Redcliffe area which we used for our character to walk down, is rather run down and walls have been graffitied on which shows that its not a very 'safe', 'wealthy' area.
The character looks rather out of place and his long coat and white shirt look rather smart and looks like he doesnt really fit in.
Even though he looks powerful and a man of some class the area that he is walking in shows something has gone wrong somewhere.
The girls character who is only shown briefly as part of the flash/cutbacks.
Our movie was able to connect with our audience as the actors are the same age, and characters can relate to some of our audience.

EVALUATION QUESTION 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

We were able to get some clear results of what of audience to target from our questionnaire which we gave out to members of the public. These results show that the Thriller clip we aimed to make would be aimed at both boys and girls around 16+. From the results from our questionnaire we can use the answers to analyse that music, actors and techniques we can use to create our film. As it is a Thriller film we are making we will use soundtracks of which build up suspense. Many films in the cinema such as Puncture, insidious were a great hit and by combining movies like these we can use the techniques they use to put them in our movie which will be a hit with a wider range of audiesne . The audience we have aimed for would enjoy our movie as we have researched into thriller movies and compared these to what the public thought so we can make 'Ignorance" as good as it can be. the small film clip lures the viewer in without telling you to much of what is going on, which leaves you wanting to watch more. this will lead the viewer to want watch more to know what has happened/going to happen, the cast used in the film are aimed to look like young adults of which they are themselves. As it is a Thriller based movie, it is also based in the future which our audience will enjoy as they are young themselves and it has a feel of what life will be like in the future.

Audience Response

To see what the target audience actually thought of our clip of "Ignorance" we decided to ask members of the public on what they thought of the clip and asked them 4 questions below.

Questions asked:
1- What did you enjoy most about the clip?
2- Did you think the film suited our target audience?

3 - The ending of the clip dragged on a bit and i thought you could find out a little bit more instead of fading into different shots.
4 - Defiantly, the suspense was building up and i was getting drawn into what was happening.

George Answered

EVALUATION QUESTION 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our main character a young man based in his late 20s/ early 30s who is an army sergant who now realys on drugs to help him. The short 2 minute beginning clip of Ignorance was created, produced and acted by young people in their later teens.

Our main character doesn't actually say anything in our clip. Music is over played ontop of the clip and the oise is bordered out.
Matt our actor doesn't say anything in the whole clip which adds some suspense to the clip. Puncture a film of which is based in the present and is related to drugs just like our film.

The Main Character in Ignorance seems to be a man of some class as just by looking at his cothes, a long coat and white shirt you can tell that he isnt exaclty poor hoever, when you see him walkingdown a street in Redcliffe you can see that where he is isn't actually that safe and that the walls are graffitied and area looks a little run down.
This looks rather odd but you can see clearly that this is happeneed and trying to get a message across and the cutbacks which appear in the next scene gives a sense that things are more than they seem.

The girl who appears in the flashbacks is the man's sister who seemed to of been captured. She look young and vonerable which could realter to young women. This is more realistc aswell as men normally seem to have moe power in Thriller and other movie genre films.
We also used an actor who wasnt your typical teenage girl with short choppy hair, which isnt common on teenage girls. This helped us make the film look more like a Thriller film with a twist instead of having your typical characters used.

EVALUATION QUESTION 1

In what ways does your media product use, developor challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our film 'Ignorance' starts off with an alarm clock sound and a picture of a the clock. This part of the clip is common in Thriller movies and other movie genres. In the Film '1408' The alarm clock goes off, however it isn't a Alarm sound but a song playing. We used an alarm clock at the very beginning of our clip to show that the day has only just begun and the noise is irritating so it instantly grabs the viewers attention.

From this the main character who's name is not mentioned (Matt Gilpin) hits the alarm and from this the film in now focused on him. As he walks around the house and into the drawer your still unsure of what is happening/ going to happen and as the music (2 guitars and drums) are playing, it adds suspense and questioning to what is happening.

Whilst the clip is still playing, the beginning credits are also shown at the start of the clip as it is only 2 minutes long to show who filmed it and directed it etc.
As the Title of "ignorance" appears, what's happening in the background dissolves but is still on the screen. The title stands out and is in bold white lettering to do so and the background of which is the main young character (Matt) inhaling some sort of drug, is faded so the title is clear but you can also get a glimpse of what is happening.

Then the music stops and the Directors name are shown. Cutting straight to the main young actor (Matt) walking down the street and the noise of the outside being overplayed. This gives a sense of eeriness and you can tell the camera is handheld which gives a sense of realism yet panicky as it slightly shakes. This is the party of the film which lures the viewers in as it it quite eery and strange and it looks like the character is having some sort of flashback and the camera switches back and forth on the young man and back to what appears to be a young girl capture and being beaten, these flashbacks give a sense of mystery. Flashbacks are used often in Thriller films to give a sense that something has happened or is happening at that moment in time. For the viewer this leads you wanting to ask questions and find out what else is going to happen next in the clip, and thats what we hopefully aim to get back from the audience we targeted.
